How Pittsburghers make 3,500 turkey dinners for city police to deliver to those in need

Go behind the scenes with Get Stuffed with Love.

So how exactly do Pittsburghers make 3,500 Thanksgiving dinners for city police to deliver to those in need today?

Get Stuffed with Love Chairperson Heather Dieckmann took us behind the scenes to show us Monday at St. Mary’s Russian Orthodox Church on the South Side.

There, 30 volunteers from the Lincoln Place Church of the Nazarene gathered to carve half of the 136 turkeys (cooked by none other than Pipers Pub and Fat Head’s). On Tuesday, more volunteers packaged potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce and cookies, so Pittsburgh police from all six police zones could deliver those meals to Pittsbughers in need this morning.

“It’s nice to be able to pay it forward a little bit and realize how blessed you are and just be able to do something for another person on Thanksgiving,” Dieckmann said.
