How to celebrate Groundhog Day without leaving Pittsburgh

MJ Slaby

It may have felt like spring this weekend, but it’s not spring until the groundhog says it is … or until March 20.

Sure, Punxsutawney is only about 80 miles away, and there’s plenty to do there if you want to make the trek. But if you want to celebrate (or mourn) Phil’s prediction here, there are ways to do that without leaving Pittsburgh. Plus, you can watch a live stream on the big day (Feb. 2).

Watch the movie

What Hear a live reading of the 1993 movie "Groundhog Day" at either 7 or 9 p.m. (Or re-live it and hear it twice.)
Where Arcade Comedy Theater at 811 Liberty Ave. (Downtown)
When February 2, 2017 at 7:00 pm
How much $7 in advance, $12 at the door
What See "Groundhog Day" with drink specials, such as sweet vermouth on the rocks with a twist, and a free beer tasting. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the movie is at 8 p.m.
Where The Oaks Theater at 310 Allegheny River Blvd. (Oakmont)
When February 3, 2017 at 8:00 pm
How much $7
What Have breakfast and then watch "Groundhog Day" to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Buy brunch tickets by 11 p.m. March 15. (Yes, just before spring starts, for real.)
Where Hollywood Theatre at 1449 Potomac Ave (Dormont)
When March 18, 2017 at 10:15 am
How much $20

Or celebrate in other ways

What It's time to celebrate "the most overlooked holiday in the United States." There will be ice luges, a live radio broadcast, beer and liquor specials and groundhog hats.
Where Harris Grill at 5747 Ellsworth Ave (Shadyside)
When January 28, 2017 at 7:00 pm to January 29, 2017 at 2:00 am
What Celebrate by running 2.2 miles for 2-2-2017. It's a virtual race, so run any time in February and submit your time to get your medal in the mail. Fifteen percent of each registration will go to the International Children’s Heart Foundation.
Where Anywhere in Pittsburgh
When February 2, 2017 at 12:00 am to February 28, 2017 at 12:00 am
How much $17
