Update, April 5: Introducing the Ultimate Pittsburgh Fish Fry champions
Update, 1:25 p.m. April 3: We’ve cancelled our April 4 event. The Ultimate Pittsburgh Fish Fry winner will be announced on The Incline and in our newsletter Wednesday morning. From there, bragging rights are instant, and we’ll deliver the trophy to the winner before Friday.
Update, 10 a.m. April 3: Voting in this round has closed.
It’s North vs. Southwest in the final round of the Ultimate Pittsburgh Fish Fry.
Churches dominated the bracket from the start, and thousands of votes were cast in the Final Four round — more than 2.5 times as many votes as there were for the Elite Eight. (In addition to online voting for the Final Four, The Incline staff made surprise stops Friday for in-person votes at each location.)
Now, we’re down to two churches known for their fish fry variety: St. Alphonsus in the North vs. St. Joan of Arc in the Southwest.
Meet our finalists:
201 Church Road (Wexford)
4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
This is the third round in a row that St. Alphonsus, Ultimate North fish fry, has gotten more than 70 percent of the votes (79 percent in the Elite Eight and 75.8 percent in the Sweet Sixteen). The Wexford church beat Corpus Christi (McKeesport) in the East with 72.8 percent of the vote and the most votes cast for any of the final four locations.
St. Joan of Arc
6470 Library Road (South Park)
11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
St. Joan of Arc advanced to the Final Four by a margin of only nine votes. But in this round, the South Park church beat Holy Angels in the City with 72.4 percent. But among in-person voting, Hays’ Holy Angels received the most votes cast on paper ballots.
Cast your vote
Voters were clear about which fish frys should advance to the Top Two — both winners got roughly 72 percent of the vote. But despite the similar percentages, St. Alphonsus received thousands more votes than St. Joan of Arc.
So will it be another overwhelming win for the champion of the Ultimate Pittsburgh Fish Fry? Or will it come down to a handful of votes? You can’t risk it. Vote. Tell your friends to vote, too. Extra feel-good points if you help your not-so-tech-savvy grandma vote online. You have until 10 a.m. Monday, April 3 to decide your favorite. You can also vote here.
St. Joan of Arc is open for lunch and dinner, and St. Alphonsus is open for dinner, so it’s totally possible to go to both Friday to do your research.
