Update, March 22: Introducing the 2018 Ultimate Pittsburgh Fish Fry champions
Update, March 13: Ultimate Pittsburgh Fish Fry: Vote for the 2018 champion now
Update, 10 a.m. March 5: Voting for this round has closed.
In the fishy battle of two Scott Township churches, the winner — Our Lady of Grace — advanced in the Ultimate Pittsburgh Fish Fry bracket with just five more votes than Saints Simon and Jude.
Scott Township was one of two locations to have two fish fry contenders in the Sweet Sixteen. The other was neighboring Carnegie, where both the Ancient Order of the Hibernians Division 32 Sean MacBride and Riley’s Pour House advanced to the Elite Eight.
Now, it’s time to vote for the top fish fry in each of the four categories.
The most votes were cast in the Fire Halls and Social Clubs quadrant. Swissvale VFD beat North Braddock VFD with 75 percent of the vote and was the most-voted-in race. The Ancient Order of the Hibernians bested Deutschtown’s Allegheny Elks #339 with 70 percent of the vote. Now, Swissvale VFD and AOH will face off.
Riley’s Pour House won with the highest percentage of votes of any race, at 80 percent, and now faces Keith Heinritz Katering (Trafford) in the Eateries final.
And in the two church quadrants, not only did Our Lady of Grace advance by a handful of votes, the other three churches heading to the Elite Eight all topped fish fry contenders from last year’s Final Four.
In Churches West, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Bellevue) took out over St. Joan of Arc (South Park) with 53 percent of the vote to face Our Lady of Grace.
And in Churches East, St. Mary of the Mount (Mount Washington) topped Corpus Christi (McKeesport), and St. Maurice in Forest Hills had 55 percent of the vote over Holy Angels (Hays).
