Updated: 9:15 a.m. Sept. 27

Fall is here, and another season is also upon us: Moving season.

If you’re currently looking for a new place, you know how difficult the apartment hunt can be.

And if your experience has been particularly unpleasant this time around, allow us to help with the latest installment in our apartment guide series.

Short of helping you actually move, we’re here to do what we can, namely scouring the interwebs for the best Pittsburgh apartments for rent this month.

Some are more practical than others.

But, as always, we’ve prioritized walkable neighborhoods, public transit access, and character (no plain cookie-cutter apartments here), all in an effort to make your search a little easier.

Whether you’re looking for a new place or just window-shopping, these Pittsburgh apartments are worth your time (and money) right now. Get ’em while they’re hot (or while the listings are still up). Happy hunting.

North Lincoln Avenue, near Galveston Street (Allegheny West)

1 bedroom, $799 per month

A “compact” and “sunny” one-bedroom apartment on the third floor of a Gilded Age mansion in the city’s historic Allegheny West neighborhood sounds good. It sounds even better when you add in free light rail service to Downtown and easy access to museums, marinas, Allegheny Commons Park, the aviary, restaurants, bars, and more. If this one doesn’t do it for you, there’s also this one-bedroom for $750 per month in a renovated historic property a few blocks away.

55 Pasadena St. (Mount Washington)

2 bedrooms, $995 per month

Just a half-mile from the nearest T station, this two-bedroom, one-bath home in Mount Washington has easy access to Downtown, the South Side, the North Side — all sides, basically. And the same goes for the restaurants and shops on Shiloh Street, and those in nearby Allentown. It’s also a stone’s throw from Emerald View Park and includes off-street parking, a back porch, and a front porch for good measure.

5616 Pocusset Street (Squirrel Hill South)

2 bedrooms, $1,249 per month

Close to bike trails, hospitals, Schenley Park, bus routes to Pitt and Downtown, and a bevy of shops, it might be easier to list what this Murray Avenue-adjacent two-bedroom doesn’t have within walking distance. Boasting a Walk Score of 86, a Transit Score of 52, and a Bike Score of 65, this duplex is arguably the best of Squirrel Hill South with hardwood floors just begging for a “Risky Business” sock slide, a huge living room, lots of closet space, and a private yard and deck.

2610 Quarry Street (South Side Slopes)

3 bedrooms, $1,310 per month

Formerly home to a very big Björk fan — based on the photos in the link above — you too can indulge your love of Iceland’s favorite iconoclast here while also indulging in amenities galore. Gyms, grocery stores, popular bars, and equally popular restaurants are all close. It’s also within a block of two bus lines and sports a big kitchen, big bedrooms, lots of storage space, a patio for hosting cookouts and off-street parking. We can’t confirm, but we’d like to imagine “It’s Oh So Quiet” too.

1107 North Highland Ave. (Highland Park)

3 bedrooms, $1,750 per month

This duplex offers space, lots of it, with three bedrooms fit for king-size beds. It’s also got easy access to coffee shops and restaurants, grocery stores, and several bus lines headed to Shadyside, Oakland, or Downtown. You’ll also find plenty of storage space, a reading nook, french doors leading to a private balcony (!!!!), a multi-purpose bonus room (????), a one-car garage, and more.

1202 Fifth Ave. (Bluff/Uptown)

3 bedrooms, $2,000 per month

Get in the thick of it with this “updated and spacious” three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath apartment in between Downtown, Duquesne University, UPMC Mercy, and PPG Paints Arena. It’s got a large, drop-dead gorgeous kitchen with granite countertops. It’s also got a dishwasher, a washer and dryer in unit, central AC, high ceilings, and hardwood floors. You may never leave the house again.

4411 Butler St. (Lawrenceville)

2 bedroom, $2,250 per month

Inside this minimalist and modern two-bedroom apartment, you’ll find new appliances, track lighting, granite countertops, exposed brick, views of Butler Street and Millvale, and something called a “rain shower.” Outside, you’ll find just about every restaurant and bar Lawrenceville has to offer. If you decide to check it out in person, be sure to ask about the renovation process. Also be sure to let us know what that rain shower is like.
