Cheer on a vintage ‘base ball’ game

Watch a “base ball” (yes, that's "base ball" — it was originally written as two words) game between the Somerset Frosty Sons of Thunder and the Addison Mountain Stars. The teams will wear vintage uniforms and follow rules commonly used during the 1860s.

Try out your atlatl skills

Prehistoric hunters used a spear-thrower called an atlatl to hunt for food. At the 21st Annual Meadowcroft Atlatl Competition, you can try it for yourself — or just watch the pros. Some of the word's top atlatl competitors (seriously) will vie for the high score.

Learn about the life of the Shawnee

Learn about the Shawnee people who once lived in Western Pennsylvania’s hills and forests. A visiting Shawnee family will demonstrate the daily life skills crucial to their 18th-century ancestors.

Celebrate Meadowcroft’s season opening

Kick off Meadowcroft’s 50th season. Explore archaeological wonders at the rockshelter, step inside a wigwam, use a prehistoric atlatl to throw a spear, and watch a blacksmith forge red-hot iron. Events run from noon until 5 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
