The Incline Local Favorites: 2022 Arts and Culture Guide

Pittsburgh has spoken. You love this city. You’ve made memories at concerts, sat in awe of dramatic theatrical performances, spent days at festivals and volunteered your time for a local arts org. Thousands of you voted for your favorite Art Museum, Festival, Theater and more. 

The winners listed below received the most votes. The next four with the most votes in each category are listed as honorable mentions.

LOCAL FAVORITE | Art Museum: Andy Warhol Museum

Who they are: The Andy Warhol Museum is located on the North Shore. It is the largest museum in North America dedicated to a single artist. The museum holds an extensive permanent collection of art and archives from the Pittsburgh-born Pop Art icon Andy Warhol.

LOCAL FAVORITE | Gallery: Pittsburgh Glass Center

Who they are: The Pittsburgh Glass Center is a gallery, glass studio, and public-access school dedicated to teaching, creating and promoting studio glass art. Anyone can take classes, explore the contemporary glass gallery, and watch the live hot glass demonstrations. World-renowned glass artists come here to create and teach. It is located on Penn Avenue in the Friendship neighborhood of Pittsburgh.

Who they are: Presenting contemporary art in craft materials by international, national, and regional artists since 1971, Contemporary Craft offers innovative exhibitions focused on multicultural diversity and contemporary art, as well as a range of hands-on workshops, community engagement programs, and a store.

Who they are: The Carnegie of Homestead Music Hall offers live music, comedy shows, and other entertainment in the historic Munhall Pennsylvania.

LOCAL FAVORITES | Theater: Benedum Center for the Performing Arts

Who they are: The Benedum Center for the Performing Arts, a Pittsburgh Cultural Trust theater, is a focal point of Pittsburgh’s Cultural District. The 2,800-seat theater is home to Pittsburgh Cultural Trust presentations including PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh, Dentons Cohen & Grigsby Trust Presents, and First Night Pittsburgh. Its resident companies include Pittsburgh CLO, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, and the Pittsburgh Opera.

LOCAL FAVORITE | Festival: Three Rivers Arts Festival

Who they are: Three Rivers Arts Festival is an outdoor music and arts festival held each June in the Downtown district of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The festival features live music and performance art, as well as visual art and vendors who sell their wares. The event is centered in Point State Park.

Who they are: The Manor Theatre is a 100 year old independent theatre in Squirrel Hill. Indie, foreign, documentary, blockbusters, every day. They also have a cocktail bar and food.

LOCAL FAVORITE | Event: Unblurred: First Friday’s on Penn

Who they are: Unblurred: First Fridays on Penn is a monthly initiative sponsored by the Penn Avenue Arts Initiative, a joint program of the BGC and Friendship Development Associates. What started as an attempt to revitalize Penn Avenue between Negley and Mathilda has transformed into one of the city’s hottest cultural events.
