Only in Pittsburgh: A party for a bridge

What The Greenfield Bridge is back, and — because this is Pittsburgh — there will be a full day of festivities to celebrate. That includes a one-mile Beat the Bridge Fun Run (11 a.m.), food trucks and games (2 p.m. to 7 p.m.) and a ribbon cutting (sunset). You can also take advantage of the free Greenfield Glug shuttle to visit local businesses in the neighborhood.

See the debut of The Butterfly Project

What The Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh is debuting The Butterfly Project Pittsburgh exhibit, a part of the global Butterfly Project. The exhibit will feature two original art installations showcasing 875 butterflies painted by Pittsburghers from 20 different schools and organizations during 2016-17. The Butterfly Project is a San Diego-based international organization which aims to paint 1.5 million ceramic butterflies — one for each of the 1.5 million children lost in the Holocaust. Hana Kovanic, a local survivor who was in the Theresienstadt camp, will give remarks.

Caturday in the Park

What The dog days of August are going to the cats. Cat owners and their feline friends are invited to attend the First Saturday Pittsburgh event at Schenley Park for a day of "outdoor cat-napping and socializing." The event's goal, according to organizers, is to "reclaim the glory of the outdoors for our feline friends" and maybe make a few human friends in the process.
