Recognize Veterans Day with a flag ceremony

What In honor of Veterans Day, Heinz History Center will host a flag ceremony. Local veterans will join museum visitors to unfurl a giant 36-foot American flag, sing the National Anthem, participate in a moment of silence and then help to ceremoniously fold the flag.

What It's one part college seminar, one part hanging out with friends (and cats). Colony Cafe's "Living Room Learning" will bring Avigail S. Oren, a historian, writer and teacher, to discuss the topic "Lena Dunham: Feminist Friend or Foe?" During the discussion, you can pet cats, sip wine and snack on cheese and veggies.

A festa Italiana at the History Center

What Heinz History Center is hosting a celebration of all things Italian, featuring bocce, crafts, live cooking demos, music and food. Guests can explore their family tree, practice Italian vocabulary and learn the Italian card game scopa. Prepare for the event by reading up on Pittsburgh's pizza history with expertise from the history center's director of the Italian American Program.

Create a custom painting on reclaimed wood

What Use a century-old reclaimed piece of wood as your canvas at this Pop Craft workshop. First, choose a design, then use acrylics to paint your creation. Stencils and templates will be offered, or you can bring your own ideas. Pro tip: Tuesday at BeerHive is wine night.

Explore tales from ‘Rust Belt Boy’
