Mayor Bill Peduto has thrown a flag on the play.

Vexed by the Steelers’ “refusal” to develop a North Shore parking lot as promised, Peduto this week put the home team on blast, saying the Steelers are stalling development there for the sake of tailgating.

“It’s an ATM for them. They’re getting all this cash and what they say is they need that parking for eight days a year for Steelers games,” Peduto told the Post-Gazette.

Peduto says the Steelers are refusing to relinquish the property, a 200-space parking area located at West General Robinson Street and Chuck Noll Way, per KDKA NewsRadio 1020. But the team insists the site is eyed for development — just not yet.

UPMC won’t require Highmark Medicare Advantage members to pay in advance for services once consent decrees between the two rival healthcare giants expire July 1. The announcement comes months after UPMC first announced the pre-payment policy to much criticism. It also marks a significant development in the effort to minimize fallout for patients caught in the middle of the planned split. Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro has filed a petition to allow the UPMC-Highmark consent decree to remain in effect beyond its scheduled expiration date, though it’s unclear if that will happen. A Commonwealth Court is set to hear arguments next week. (TribLive)

Allegheny County Controller Chelsa Wagner will have a general election opponent after all — a gun rights activist and local Republican committeewoman who earlier this year attempted to impeach Pittsburgh’s mayor. Brooke Nadonley of Mount Washington obtained 1,887 write-ins in last month’s primary, enough to land her a spot on the ballot opposite Wagner. Earlier this year, Nadonley pushed for Mayor Peduto’s impeachment over a trio of citywide gun-control ordinances. (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

A proposed documentary about Mac Miller was postponed almost as soon as it was announced this week, following objections from Miller’s estate. On Monday, Canadian filmmaker CJ Wallis announced plans to begin work on a film about the late Pittsburgh rapper, who died of a drug overdose last year at the age of 26. By Tuesday, Wallis’ plans were put on hold following objections from Miller’s family. Now, an online debate is brewing about how such situations should be handled and whether Wallis was in the wrong.
