What Pittsburgh is talking about

Who wants to move to Pittsburgh?

New Yorkers, mostly. People from Philadelphia and Detroit also top the list, according to a new Renter Migration Report that analyzed millions of apartment searches.

Though Pittsburgh is evolving into a tech and AI hub, very few San Francisco Bay Area residents are looking to move, City Paper reported.

And even though people are interested in Pittsburgh, that doesn’t mean the region’s population is growing — not yet, anyway. Thousands of people are moving out of Pittsburgh to other American cities each year, and they seem to be most interested in Washington, D.C.

In other news…

Kennywood’s Steel Curtain is opening very soon. The record-setting roller coaster will open to the public on July 13 with the first ride scheduled for 6:30 a.m. The Steelers-themed coaster includes nine inversions, the most of any roller coaster in North America. Plus, it’s Pennsylvania’s tallest roller coaster at 220 feet. (Beaver County Times)

Love PGH Music Month is now underway. The month is a part of the new initiative Love PGH Music, which amplifies local artists and venues. “The idea here is that we’re creating a big megaphone that we want to use to shout to audiences, ‘This is your chance to fall in love with a local band,'” a board member said. Check out dozens of performances, from hip-hop to jazz, bluegrass, folk, and more. (Pittsburgh Current)

Concert traffic is a nightmare at Key Bank Pavilion (a.k.a. Starlake), but the venue’s owners won’t say if they’re going to fix it. Evening show traffic has been a problem since the venue opened in 1990, meaning fans end up missing hours of music. Live Nation’s spokesperson said: “We always encourage fans to arrive early and subscribe to venue communications for updates for the most seamless entry experience.” (TribLive)

What’s up in Pittsburgh’s food and drink scene

Say hello to a summery pop-up, a casual brewery, and a jazz joint this month. There’s also a highly anticipated Downtown restaurant with Instagram-worthy presentations, a sweet treat shop, and a bar with a view.

Meanwhile, a long-time outpost for margaritas and tacos has shut its doors.

Here’s the full report on what’s opening and closing this month — dig in.

One more thing…

If you’re into good food and good deals, this Reddit thread is for you. Fellow Pittsburghers are sharing their best daily food deals, like BOGO sandwiches on Mondays, half-off burgers on Tuesdays, and $20 for all-you-can-eat wings on Thursdays.

Bon appétit.
