What Pittsburgh is talking about

Mayor Bill Peduto doesn’t want to raise your taxes for 2020, according to the budget proposal he announced this week.

The spending plan includes $606 million for daily operations and $109 million for capital improvements, TribLive reports. This includes more spending on public safety and funding for street upgrades, namely paving, traffic signals, and intersection improvements.

The budget does include a tax hike on property sales, and the increase will fund housing options for families living at or near the poverty line.

“City of Pittsburgh budget continues financial discipline while addressing critical needs,” Peduto tweeted.

The budget now goes to city council, which has until the end of the year to approve it.
