What Pittsburgh is talking about

Bakery Square is cooking up some updates. A two-story addition with a restaurant, a conservatory, an expanded public plaza, and a new breezeway are in the works for the office and retail complex. Public art will also come to the former Nabisco factory site with medallions shaped liked Oreos or Nabisco crackers. Renowned local artist Burton Morris will paint some, while community artists and school kids will create others. (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

Get nebby with this Mister Rogers interview by beloved TV personality Rick Sebak. In the footage from 1987, Fred Rogers plays the piano and talks about “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.” As WQED explains, it’s full of unaired footage and “life lessons from Fred Rogers, a really wonderful teacher.” Take the 28 minutes to give this a watch and then catch up on all the other Nebby programs. (WQED)

Meet Dutchess the dog. She got out of her yard in Florida 12 years ago and somehow ended up in Pittsburgh. A Carnegie resident this week found the 14-year-old fox terrier under a shed shivering, hungry, and in need of a serious nail trim. They took the dog to Humane Animal Rescue, who realized the dog was microchipped and registered to a woman in South Florida. After searching for more than a decade, they’re finally reunited. (KDKA-TV)

Yinzer food is continuing its quest for world domination starting with central Pennsylvania. A student blog at Penn State posted a picture of College Avenue with the caption “West College or Little Pittsburgh?” Pittsburgh chains Hello Bistro and BRGR have moved into the college town recently, joining a Primanti Bros. and Salud location. Let us tell you about ourselves

If you’ve been hanging around in our corner of the Internet for a while, you’ve probably picked up on a few things about The Incline.

  1. No, we’re not the incline on Mount Washington, but it’s a common misconception.
  2. We’re all about Pittsburgh. That means we cheer for our city but we also hold it accountable because we want Pittsburgh to be the best place it can be for everybody.
  3. Clearly, you already know that this daily newsletter is the coolest way to prepare for your day. 😎

And we want to peel back the curtain a little more. Our third birthday party is coming up, and we thought you might like to know us a little better.

  1. We’re part of WhereBy.Us, a local media startup with sites in Miami, Orlando, Seattle, and Portland. From all parts of the country, we work collaboratively to do the best local journalism we can and to figure out how to make local journalism financially sustainable. No pressure at all, right?
  2. We’re a small but mighty team with a variety of backgrounds. We’re drawing on experience from working at newspapers, news websites, museums, non-profits, photography darkrooms, retail, sales, food service, education, fundraising, and lots more. Stay tuned later this week for profiles of our team.
  3. Our slogan is “elevating the news in Pittsburgh.” We read to the end of the Internet each day so you don’t have to, sifting for the stories you need to read. Then, we link directly to them. No clickbait aggregation.

Let’s get together

We’re looking to get a taste of Pittsburgh for our upcoming What’s Next event. Interested in serving up a tasty drink or food from your business? We would love to showcase you! Hit reply and tell us about yourself.
