The United States Supreme Court on Monday dealt another blow to Pennsylvania Republicans by declining a GOP request to halt a court-ordered and, for Republicans, politically risky redistricting effort in Pennsylvania ahead of the 2018 midterms, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The Supreme Court denied a request made by Pennsylvania Republicans to block a state court's ruling that found the state's gerrymandered congressional map to be "unconstitutional." The state court's decision came in response to a challenge made by Democrats. The decision also prompted Republicans to refuse to turn over the data needed to redraw the map as they appealed to the higher court. Monday's SCOTUS decision was obviously not the outcome they were hoping for, and it represents a serious setback for the party ahead of a politically urgent election season.
