On Wednesday, Pittsburgh high school students rallied in Market Square asking for stricter gun control laws, per WTAE. High school and college students are also planning a "March For Our Lives" for March 24 in Pittsburgh. The event would coincide with others planned for Washington D.C. and other cities after the mass school shooting in Parkland, Fla. last week. Pittsburgh students said they wanted to march in hopes that local politicians advance legislation to protect schools from gun violence, the Post-Gazette reported.
Shannon Edwards, the woman whose relationship with U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy led to his downfall, is running for U.S. Congress as a Republican, the Post-Gazette reported. Edwards is a forensic psychologist who works in the Allegheny County courts and teamed up with Murphy on mental health legislation in 2015. She hopes to run in the 14th district and challenge U.S. Rep Mike Doyle, however, the new congressional map could put her in the 18th District instead. But either way, she told the PG that she's running.
Ryan Shazier plans to play football again. In an episode of teammate Roosevelt Nix's podcast, Shazier said he wants to get back to football and be a Pro Football Hall of Famer. The podcast interview was Shazier's first since his December spinal injury. Per ESPN, the linebacker is making progress in rehab and goes to the Steelers' facility regularly for workouts and to watch film.
