On Wednesday, four women leaders in Pittsburgh-area politics announced a new PAC focused on female candidates. Women for The Future of Pittsburgh was founded by Ashleigh Deemer, Marita Garrett, Natalia Rudiak and Chelsa Wagner. The PAC plans to provide financial support to female candidates starting with the spring 2018 primary.
The Pittsburgh chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America endorsed two candidates in Tuesday's election — and both went on to oust incumbents, the Post-Gazette reported. Mik Pappas defeated Ron Costa, Sr. for district judge, and Anita Prizio beat Ed Kress in the District 3 county council race. Growing in numbers, the local chapter is already looking forward to 2018 and plans to endorse more candidates next month.
UPS will use electrically assisted tricycles to deliver packages in Pittsburgh, the company announced Wednesday. The eBikes have battery-powered electric motors and will be used in downtown Pittsburgh. And UPS plans to keep the bikes in use — weather permitting — year round. "Inside Out: Mothers Who Have Survived Overdose" will feature a candid panel discussion with leaders from those groups, along with two women in recovery, state Rep. Ed Gainey and representatives from Prevention Point Pittsburgh and the City of Pittsburgh Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS.
