An Allegheny County judge found Laurel Schlemmer guilty of third-degree murder but mentally ill on Thursday, WTAE reported. The 43-year-old McCandless mother was accused of drowning her sons, Daniel, 6, and Luke, 3, in their bathtub in 2014. “It is my fervent hope that in the future, mental health treatment will bring you, Ms. Schlemmer, to the shocking realization of what you have done so that you will continue to be punished far beyond any sentence this court might impose,” the judge said to her, TribLive reported.
If you didn't celebrate St. Patrick's Day last weekend (or if your liver has recovered), there are a few parties happening today. Bar Louie's North and South Shore locations will both have drink specials all day, while there are two options for live music on the South Side and one in the Strip District. Consult our list for more details.
Bishop David A. Zubik said in a letter to members of the diocese that they don’t have to follow the usual Lenten rule of not eating meat today, since it's St. Patrick's Day. So will that put a damper on fish fry attendance today? “I know that the bishop said people can eat meat on St. Patrick’s Day, but we have a loyal following,” said Cindy Depretis, who organizes the fish fry at Holy Angels Parish in Hays. Another chance to prove you're a loyal follower: Vote your favorite fish fry into the Final Four.

Wahlburgers, a burger chain Mark Wahlberg runs with his chef brother Paul and New Kids on the Block sibling Donnie, is opening two locations in the Pittsburgh area. One location should be open by the end of the year, Good Food Pittsburgh reported, which is about the only detail we know at the moment.
