State Rep. Tony DeLuca, a Democrat who represents Penn Hills, plans to once again introduce bills that would allow early voting and same-day registration in Pennsylvania. Previous versions failed to make it out of the House State Government committee, chaired by Republican Rep. Daryl Metcalfe of Butler County. Rep. Matthew Bradford serves on the committee and plans to press the issue with his colleagues, while DeLuca is calling on House Republicans to bring the bills up for a vote. "They should have enough guts to put it out on the floor and let members vote on it."

One of his most well-known decisions "held that a Pennsylvania jail’s policy of strip-searching all detainees — who have been arrested for any crime — wasn’t a violation of the Fourth Amendment restriction on unreasonable searches and seizures."
Pittsburgh City Council debated a package of bills, introduced by Councilman Dan Gilman, aimed at supporting refugees and immigrants, WESA reported. "What I don’t want to do is harbor illegal aliens that are coming here," she said. Gilman emphasized that the bills would not designate Pittsburgh as a sanctuary city.
