Move over, Santa. Port Authority driver Bill Sanfilippo spent 15 hours transforming his bus into a Christmas wonderland. He's been decorating his bus for the past 10 years, but doesn't bother with his house in Bloomfield. Sanfilippo's not the only Port Authority driver who spreads holiday cheer this way. Check out this video of some of the most festive buses in the city.
The holiday season is inescapable Downtown. Christmas trees everywhere. Wreaths on lampposts, hung before Halloween. A life-sized baby Jesus inside a massive Nativity scene called the Pittsburgh Crèche, which is the only “authorized replica” of the Vatican’s. That display is on private land, but there used to be one inside the county courthouse. Guess how that turned out.
Did you run out of time for volunteering this holiday season? That might not be a bad thing. Take the advice of R.J. Hufnagel, president of the board of directors for Pittsburgh Cares, in this guest column and make it a new habit. A New Year's resolution, perhaps? (P.S. If you're in the mood to read and watch more holiday stories, you can do that here. And check out tomorrow's newsletter for this week's event listing.)
