Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf on Monday vetoed the bill, vanquishing it for the moment, but it has by no means disappeared.

Effective next year, Pittsburgh Public Schools have banned out-of-school suspensions for students in preschool through second grade cited for nonviolent, “minor disciplinary infractions,” TribLive reports. The ban represents a first in Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, schools in other states are also considering moving away from suspensions for minor infractions citing concerns about disparities in “how suspensions are meted out.”
