"The father of transplantation," Dr. Thomas E. Starzl, died Saturday at his Schenley Farms home at the age of 90. He performed the first successful liver transplant in 1967, TribLive reports. "He was a force of nature that swept all those around him into his orbit, challenging those that surrounded him to strive to match his superhuman feats of focus, will and compassion," his family said in a statement.
That question is up in the air, as six members of the Allegheny County Council say they'll vote in favor of the ban while five say they'll vote against it, TribLive reported. That leaves three members who haven't publicly said how they'll vote on Tuesday. The ban would extend the prohibition on cigarette smoking in places like restaurants and schools to e-cigarettes.
