Pitch your best story idea — and determine which stories get told here — at The Pittsburgh Pitch 2

The Pittsburgh Pitch is an experiment in crowdsourcing and crowdfunding local journalism, hosted by The Incline and The Center for Media Innovation. This event is for you if:

  • You're a local reporter, multimedia journalist or podcaster with a great story idea about the people and places of Pittsburgh
  • You're a citizen that wishes you could help decide what your local news outlets choose to cover
The goal of this project is to help local reporters — freelancers and those working in newsrooms/radio stations — produce the critical stories that people in and around Pittsburgh want to read, see and hear. We're looking for five pitches for new stories and five pitches for podcasts. Here's what you can expect Oct. 27 at The Pittsburgh Pitch:
  • Shortlisted reporters will pitch their ideas in 60 seconds.
  • Your ticket gets you one vote for your favorite story pitch of the night.
  • The pitch with the most votes wins.
  • P.S. There will be beer and some appetizers. Halloween costumes are optional.
The winning reporter gets the money from the door to go off and produce the story, with the additional benefit of a pre-built local audience of people already engaged and interested in their reporting. The reporters who aren't chosen get their story idea in front of a crowd of potential readers — and perhaps a few editors and publishers.
