Huma Mohiuddin headshot

Hi, Huma! Who are you? What do you do?

I am the Market President for BNY Mellon Wealth Management in Pittsburgh, and my team works with wealthy families and impactful nonprofits by employing our Active Wealth approach to wealth and financial planning through investing, managing taxes, protecting established wealth, spending, and borrowing disciplines. I also serve on the boards of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra to help further literacy and the arts. While I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, I later left for 13 years, but returned to Pittsburgh roughly seven years ago for career opportunities and to raise my two children in this beautiful city.

Wax poetic for a second and tell us: what brings you most alive about this city?

The city’s landscape and natural beauty truly bring me alive, mixed with the entrepreneurial culture and long-standing legacies from our rich history and prevalence on the world’s stage. The city has a culture of close-knit relationships and giving back to the community, which makes it a very special place to live and visit.

If you could give any one piece of advice to locals, what would it be?

We are a city that is very proud of our culture and legacy. Bank of New York Mellon also has a long and important history (Bank of New York was founded more than 230 years ago, and Mellon was founded more than 150 years ago), so all around me, there are rich histories to draw from. My advice would be to both celebrate our inspiring past as well as look forward to continuing to be one of the best cities in the world to live, work and enjoy life.

As part of this, I’d encourage locals to look for new ways to get involved in the community and give back to local causes. Additionally, partaking in healthy financial habits now, whether that means working with an advisor to craft an effective wealth plan or teaching children responsible financial habits at an early age, is also critical to building on Pittsburgh’s rich legacy and investing in a city that will continue to grow.

How does Pittsburgh help you do what you do/influence your work?

Pittsburgh is a hub for robust talent, entrepreneurialism and a commitment to giving back. I’m fortunate to be part of an incredible team at BNY Mellon Wealth Management that embodies all of these qualities and inspires me each day to seek out comprehensive strategies and solutions to help families and individuals achieve their financial goals, unite across generations, and create meaningful legacies within their families and the community.

What’s an unpopular opinion you have about the city?

I love this city, and an unpopular opinion I’ve heard is that we are an old industrial city, which could not be further from the truth. The city is spectacularly beautiful in its landscape and downtown design. It has continued to evolve into a dynamic and multi-cultural oasis, full of enjoyable activities for all ages, world class arts, educational establishments, sports teams, career opportunities across all sectors, a strong non-profits presence and much more. While we’re a city with a strong, industrial history, we have a bright, modern future.

What are you most looking forward to this year?

What drives me for this year and beyond is to make a difference in the lives of my family, team, clients, and the broad Pittsburgh region through focusing on all the strengths and talent we are surrounded by. Additionally, I’m looking forward to helping those around me grow by achieving their financial and philanthropic goals to be the best they can and live their most fulfilling, enjoyable lives.
