🍪 The unspoken rules of Pittsburgh

In case you didn’t know. | Tag #theinclinepgh to be featured in our Instagram of the Day.

What Pittsburgh is talking about

As citizens of Pittsburgh, there are a lot of laws we are supposed to follow. But what if there was a completely separate list of rules that all yinzers should know about — and what if they weren’t actually written down anywhere?

Sounds crazy, but our Facebook friends came up with plenty of unspoken rules that keep Pittsburgh in line. We figured it was about time to write ’em down, and our illustration has gone viral with a lot of love, a little hate, and a bunch of additional ideas.

In the love category, our favorite comment comes from @fooduzzi, who said, “I literally cannot love @theinclinepgh’s posts more. They remind me that being a Pittsburgher is weird. But I love it. #pittsburghproud”

As for hate, there’s a lot of anger over the parking chair. Read about it in the comments, if you dare.

And in the new idea category:

“They missed ‘the Pittsburgh left.'” — Beth Pedone
Here’s more about the Pittsburgh Left if you’re not familiar with the term.

“Be sure to let somebody know if ‘Kennywood is open.'” — Michael Yeomans
This is a must. And here’s the story behind this mysterious Pittsburgh phrase.

“Don’t disrespect the Terrible Towel.” — Mathew Kostewicz
Uh, we may have accidentally broken this rule.

“Can We add RANCH on Everythang.” — Ibdronin
Very accurate.

“The best color combo for any occasion is Black and Gold 🖤💛” — We4pakings
Endorse.

In other news …

If you want to hear from Allegheny County’s DA before the election … keep waiting. District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala Jr. won’t attend an upcoming candidate forum hosted by the League of Women Voters. The reason? His “schedule is full.” The League even asked Zappala to pick a few suitable dates, and his campaign never responded. Zappala’s campaign said the DA will be attending a committee meeting that night but also said he has “no desire to share a stage” with his opposition, Lisa Middleman, based on things she said 27 years ago. (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

Nearly half of Pennsylvania’s bird species are under threat from climate change, the National Audubon Society says. That includes easily recognizable birds like the pine warbler, red-headed woodpecker, and American black duck. But it’s not too late to save them — here are five ways to do that. (Pennsylvania Capital-Star)

Get into the seasonal spirit with this round-up of scary movies playing around Pittsburgh. They’re conveniently organized into three categories, from wholesome films like “Hocus Pocus” to movies that’ll make you sleep with the lights on like “Candyman.” (Pittsburgh City Paper)

I Spy Pittsburgh

So … did you get it?

This week’s I Spy feature took us to Braddock and the main thoroughfare of Braddock Avenue, where Brooklyn muralist Katie Merz covered the outside of an apartment building with her distinctive brand of hieroglyphs.

Here’s the before and here’s the after.

Nobody responded to us with the right answer, so it seems this week’s puzzle was too hard. And last week’s was too easy, as everybody got the correct answer. We’re gonna find “just right” one of these days. 😂

We’re taking a short break from I Spy for the next two weeks (because we’ll be talking all about our birthday party!), but we’ll be back with more brainteasers soon.

Let’s get together

We’re looking to get a taste of Pittsburgh for our upcoming What’s Next event. Interested in serving up a tasty drink or food from your business? We would love to showcase you! Hit reply and tell us about yourself.
