Nine-hundred seventy-five pieces of jewelry. 524 belts. 327 sunglasses. 33 Fitbits. A snow blower. A ’93 Ford Tempo coupe. Some scuba gear. A 5-pound, 2,500-page English-Vietnamese dictionary.ย
All of it can be yours this weekend at Pittsburgh International Airport’s annual auction, Blue Sky explains. And it’s just what you think it is โ a collection of stuff forgotten or abandoned at the airport.
Proceeds from the auction benefit the Airport Authority’s foundation, which helps support the airport’s military lounge, Art in the Airport program, aviation scholarships, and workforce development. The airport’s already donated 35 boxes of clothing and three boxes of eyeglasses to local charities.
Here’s a sneak peek at what’s up for auction this Saturday. (And really. Who forgets their scuba gear?) Get there early and turn somebody else’s trash into your treasure.

Pittsburgh is winning the ‘streaming wars.’ Thirteen feature films and six TV series have applied to film in Pittsburgh this year, including works like “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” with Denzel Washington and “Manhunt: Lone Wolf.” We have the streaming content boom to thank for that. And with the right tax incentives, the Pittsburgh Film Office explains, Pittsburgh could go even more Hollywood. (NEXTpittsburgh)
Pittsburgh to Columbus in 20 minutes? Seems tough. And getting there for $30? Impossible. But look at these preliminary hyperloop plans, and hey โ it could happen. Construction could start in the 2020s but could take decades to finish. The biggest open question: Will a transportation dream like this ever become reality? (Pittsburgh Business Times)
Plant parents, this one’s for you. The city is giving away its tropical plants to make space for winter plants. It’s first-come, first-served, so you might want to plant yourself there with extra thyme Saturday morning (oof, sorry that was a groan-worthy pun even for us ๐). Sorry for the profanity, but we have to say the foulest four-letter word โฆ S-N-O-W. The white stuff is in the forecast for our region’s mountains on Thursday, but it should warm up for the weekend.
As for the city, looks like a rainy day is ahead. Here’s how we feel about that.
Stay warm (and dry) out there.
